Pediatric occupational therapy promotes successful acquisitionof self-help, play, and learning skills for infants and children. Activities used to address these areas include: daily living tasks, play activities, sensory-motor skills, visual-motor and visual perceptual tasks, and fine motor activities.

Occupational therapy at High Hopes stresses the importance of sensory integration and the development of fine motor and perceptual skills as prerequisites for academic learning and prevocational skills. We work closely with families, teachers and other professionals to address the needs of the child and family.

• Promote age appropriate independence in activities of daily living (ADL)
• Custom hand splints to prevent deformities
• Promote age-appropriate mobility, fine motor skills
• Facilitate play behavior and developmental skills
• Parent/family instruction
• Sensory integration evaluations/treatment techniques
• Standardized evaluations
• Individual and small group treatment
• Classroom or clinic based treatment
• Handwriting evaluations/treatment techniques
Referrals are received through doctors, physical/speech & language therapists, teachers, or other professionals, as well as the Tennessee Early Intervention Services (TEIS).
