Physical Therapy

A pediatric physical therapist works with children using therapeutic exercise techniques to improve joint range of motion, increase strength & endurance, improve balance & coordination, increase efficiency and appearance of patterns of posture or movement, and increase function. Depending on the age of the child, function may be related to developmental activities or specific activities of daily living.

When a child is referred to High Hopes for physical therapy, the therapist will do an evaluation to identify the child's strengths and problem areas in order to establish the appropriate goals and treatment plan. Therapeutic exercise in pediatrics usually takes the form of structured play activities to accomplish specific objectives. Treatment of the child also includes instruction of the parents and consultation with the team of professionals working with the child, in order to help the child reach his/her fullest potential.
